SMOC 2006 THEME: FINDING BALANCE

“Something New”
July 2006

Since my 25th birthday (not long ago) I have celebrated this special moment in
time not on the day, but the entire month of July. Every year, I try to do a least one thing new that will enhance my life. Whether, it is traveling to somewhere I have never been before – to enjoying lunch at a new or different restaurant.

Try something new and step out of your comfort zone. If you have ever said to yourself, “I want to . . . or I would like to . . .” than like the NIKE slogan, Just Do It! Do not worry about what other people may think.

Life is short. It truly is about happiness and your happiness is the most important, because it fuels a positive spirit to those close and dear to you. If you want to move your body to some Salsa music and learn the dance – go Salsa. If Belly dancing has you intrigued – go shake that thang girl!

Since its National announcement and opening, I have wanted to visit the National Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. Recently, I met my sister, niece, and nephew on a one-day excursion to visit a research museum with a focus on slavery and the Underground Railroad. It was an awesome experience to actually be near and see a portion of the Ohio River where many slaves crossed seeking their freedom. Also, while remembering those that died trying to cross or may have fallen in the hands of slavery bounty hunters and returned to their slave masters to receive a harsher punishment for running away.

This was a wonderful and great opportunity, where I ceased the moment to do something new. Thanks Sis!

Many Blessings,
